With 48 skiers and riders onboard the bus to Holiday Valley, we pulled out of the Wilson Mills parking lot right on schedule. Our bus driver Jeanette made great time and we arrived at HV before 10 am. With the warm weather, we did not know what to expect. We found what could be politely called “variable conditions”. Translation: corn, thick snow and ice patches. There were however some areas that some described as “nice for today” and we got in some runs that were actually pleasant. This is the stuff that makes eastern skiers great. Although there were no formal lunch plans, we saw many of the group at the Yodeler’s lodge taking a break and fueling up for the afternoon. There were many groans about the aching thigh muscles as a result of working through the thick snow.
Most of the participants decided to join the group for dinner at John Harvard’s Tavern in the Tamarack Club. Since several people felt 4:30 was too early for dinner, we arranged for both 4:30 and 5:00 seatings. This seemed to suit the club members and the restaurant staff as well. There were several in-house brews along with local and national favorites on tap. The food was very tasty and service was excellent. We were seated in the private dining room so the group could sit together. Ray and I received a lot of positive feedback about the dinner arrangements.
While many of us were dining, the diehards were still on the slopes getting in those last runs. Everyone arrived back to the bus safely and we pulled out before 7pm. Once the trip home was underway, Bernice surprised us with a treat of Jell-O shots. Those went quickly along with the home baked cookies served for dessert. The bus was lively on the way home and everyone seemed to have fun sharing their stories of the day. Overall it was a very successful trip.
