Date:
Sat, Dec 1, 2012 - 12:00 pm
Description:

Lewis Ski Club – come on out to the Springvale Country Club clubhouse (5871 Canterbury Rd North Olmsted, Ohio 44070)  on Saturday, December 1st for a fund raiser to support YOUR youth athletes participating in the International Children’s Winter Games! There will be a ski swap, a bake sale, many items to be raffled off, and ski waxing! Please stop by the Clubhouse from noon to 4pm and help support the team of alpine and Nordic skiers from across greater Cleveland. It’s a long way to Ufa, Russia and yet, with your help, we can get them there. At least 3 members of the team have been or currently are members of the Lewis Ski Club!!!!!

Here’s the scoop: The Greater Cleveland Sports Commission is one of the key sponsors that is sending a youth delegation from Cleveland to attend the 6th International Children’s Winter Games to be held in Ufa, Russia from February 26, 2013 to March 3, 2013. Children from as many as 40 countries are expected to be represented. The games are an opportunity for children to combine sports with cultural exchanges and educational programs.

Ten Cleveland athletes aged twelve to fourteen will represent Northeast Ohio and compete in nordic skiing, alpine skiing and orienteering. Other disciplines at the Ufa Children’s Games include figure skating, ice hockey, short track skating, and snowboarding.

This is an incredible opportunity for children from our community to engage in international competition while cultivating friendships with children from all over the world,” stated Thomas Cook, head of Cleveland’s delegation. “The experience is a unique mix of sportsmanship, fellowship and civic pride.” Tom will be the featured speaker at our January club meeting to tell us more about this exciting event.

If you have any items that you’d like to donate to the ski swap or to have raffled off, please contact Linda Elonen-Wright.  Thanks in advance!
