Jay Peak 2012 Trip Summary

With 77 beautiful alpine ski trails, a brand new resort and indoor water park, and miles of Nordic ski trails, could anything be lacking from a week long trip to Jay Peak, Vermont?  Well, below freezing temperatures would have been nice, or honestly just anything under 70F.  Thankfully a 60 inch snow base is hard to obliterate in one week even if Mother Nature tries her hardest.  So while the 35 travelers from 3 Cleveland area ski clubs did not experience the best of conditions we still were able to enjoy 5 full days of skiing with evenings spent enjoying a pretty amazing indoor water park.  As the week went on the temperature went up, it became apparent that not everyone was enjoying skiing in such variable conditions (though variable doesn’t seem to quite cover it when you consider that occasionally one had to water ski rather than snow ski in order to get down some of the slopes), so our fearless leaders rose to the occasion and organized two spontaneous day trips, Wednesday was a tour of various points of interest in Vermont (Ben and Jerry’s – yum) and the other to Montreal Canada.  For many the best part of the trip was the daily ski lessons that were part of our package, after all even the most experienced skier can use a few hours of instruction, for others the amazing resort accomidations and fine dinning make it a trip worth remembering, but I think we would all agree that the combination of good food, good friends and good skiing made this a great way to enjoy the last of winter.
