Event Summary

It was a rainy Saturday on July 24 at Punderson State Park golf course. That didn’t stop our 20 intrepid golfers, representing the Lewis Ski Club’s inaugural team entry, joining ~83 more from around CMSC, in playing for the 12th annual Metro Cup. We were able to represent the Club in every division of the tournament, with multiple entries in the four-person scramble and two-person best ball. A good time was had by all despite the weather, a late shotgun start, and some challenging conditions and pin placements! Our team came home in 3rd place overall, with 53 total points.

An excellent showing for our first ever team entry! Individually, Becky B., on loan from Warren Ski Club, took home honors as Women’s Medalist, shooting a superb round of 86. Our other WSC “companions”, Bootsie R., Lance and Logan P., and Dave B., finished 7th in Four Person Scramble. They were followed by Jim S., Bruce and Elise F., and James W., along with Ron H., Paul S., Lisa L., and Pam K. in 12th and 13th place, respectively. Pam came to us from Hi Rise, and Jim chose to celebrate his birthday with us! Joe and Lisa P. represented the team in Two Person Coed Scramble, and finished a very respectable 4th place in a competitive division. Colin B. and Dave F. placed 2nd in Two Person Best Ball, while our father-son duo of Jan and Eric J. finished in 7th place.

Meanwhile, your team captain had a tough time adjusting to the greens, finishing in 5th place in Men’s Medal. However, I did get honorable mention for most colorful golf outfit! Everyone enjoyed the refreshments after the round, and the excellent bbq rib and chicken dinner put on by the Manor Lodge staff. Quite a few members of the team took home raffle prizes as well, adding to the fun. It was a pleasure and honor organizing the team to compete in this very well run event, and I look forward to going back next year, increasing our level of participation, and improving our performance!
